Choosing a Somfy wall switch
Wireless or hardwired
Battery-powered wireless switches (DecoFlex WireFree RTS and Smoove) carry their own radio and mount anywhere, including glass and tile. Nothing runs back to the motor. Hardwired dry-contact switch stations close a circuit on a motor that has no radio, which means a control cable from the switch to the motor. DecoFlex SDN keypads sit on an addressable RS485 bus.
On a retrofit, the wireless version usually wins on labor alone. On new construction with the walls open, the wired one is cheaper to own.
The switch has to speak the motor's language
An RTS switch drives RTS motors. A Zigbee switch drives Zigbee motors. A dry-contact station drives wired motors with no receiver. None of these substitute for each other, and the three look nearly the same once they are on the wall.
If the motor is wired and the client wants a wireless switch, add an RTS or Zigbee receiver inline first. That is a real product, not a workaround.
Channels
Stocked in 1 to 5 channels. Each channel addresses one shade or one programmed group. Somfy motors hold 12 transmitters, so a wall switch, two handhelds and a hub can all point at the same shade without conflict.
Finishes
White, black and ivory, in decorator-style plates that gang beside standard lighting controls. Surface-mount and in-wall bodies are both available, so a wireless switch can sit flush next to a hardwired dimmer and match it.

Common questions
Do Somfy wall switches need wiring?
Most do not. DecoFlex and Smoove RTS wall switches are battery-powered radio transmitters that mount with adhesive or screws to any flat surface, so they can go where a switch makes sense rather than where a wire runs. Wired keypad options exist for SDN and dry-contact systems.
Can I put a wall switch and a handheld remote on the same shade?
Yes. A Somfy motor stores up to 12 transmitters, so a wall switch, one or more handheld remotes and a timer can all drive the same shade. Each is paired separately, and adding one does not remove the others.
What is the difference between DecoFlex and Smoove?
Both are RTS wall switches. DecoFlex uses a frame-and-button design available in 1, 2 and 5 channel versions, with engravable buttons. Smoove is a single-channel switch with a touch-style interface. Choose by channel count and how the switch needs to look on the wall.
Can I get custom text on the buttons?
Yes. We engrave DecoFlex and Smoove buttons and frames to order with room names, zone names or icons, which matters on a multi-channel switch where blank buttons leave everyone guessing. Configure the text on our custom engraved buttons page.
Will a Somfy wall switch work with a Zigbee motor?
Only if the switch is a Zigbee model. RTS switches drive RTS motors and Zigbee switches drive Zigbee motors. The protocol is fixed in the motor at manufacture, so match the switch to what the motor already speaks.
