Choosing a Somfy drapery motor
Ask where the power is first
Everything else follows from whether there is line voltage at the track header. With power, the Glydea ULTRA range covers it: the ULTRA 35 at 77 lb and 0.6 Nm, the ULTRA 60 at 132 lb and 1 Nm, both at 105 rpm and 38 dB. Without power, the battery motors take over.
Retrofitting a header on a finished ceiling costs more than the motor. That is why the WireFree options exist.
The battery options and their ceilings
The Glydea ULTRA 50 WireFree Zigbee carries 110 lb at 40 dB and recharges in place. The Irismo 45 WireFree carries 99 lb at 0.8 Nm and 87.5 rpm on a 25.9V Li-ion pack, running about nine months between charges, and Somfy caps its track at 33 ft. The Irismo 45 is RTS only, so a Zigbee house needs the Glydea.
Control type on the wired motors
Glydea ULTRA ships in RTS for wireless, DCT for dry-contact wiring into a control system through RJ12, Zigbee 3.0 for two-way app control, and a plain wired version with no plug. The mechanics are identical across them. Pick the one that matches the rest of the house, because it cannot change later.
Weigh the drapery, then add the hardware
Weight ratings assume the finished panel, including lining and trim. Lined velvet across a wide opening reaches a 77 lb ceiling quickly, and the honest move is to weigh a sample yard and multiply. Every motor also needs track, carriers, a master carrier, an arm kit and brackets before it runs, and Glydea 35 and 60 hardware does not interchange.

How quiet are they?
Glydea ULTRA is rated 38 dB in silent mode and Irismo 45 is rated 39 dB. The difference is below what anyone notices in a room, so noise is rarely the deciding factor between them.
What is Touch Motion?
A gentle pull on the fabric starts the motor, so the drapery can be opened by hand the way an unmotorised one would be. It is on both Glydea and Irismo, and it is usually the feature people end up using most.
Do these work with pinch pleat and RippleFold?
Yes, both families drive pinch pleat, RippleFold and Accordia. The drapery style changes the carriers and their spacing rather than the motor, so specify the style when ordering the track and carriers.
