Short answer: The Somfy Smoove wall switch sold in the US as the Smoove 1 RTS Pure II (1871361) is a single-channel, battery-powered RTS switch that surface-mounts on a plate, with no drywall cutting and no wiring. It runs one RTS shade or one group at 433.420 MHz, uses a CR2032 cell rated for 5 years, and pairs like any Somfy RTS remote.
A Smoove gives a room a fixed control point by the door without an electrician. The Somfy Smoove 1 RTS Pure II Wall Switch with Frame (1871361) carries its own radio and its own coin cell, so nothing runs back to the motor. Two questions decide the purchase: does the shade have an RTS motor or receiver, and does one channel cover the job? This guide answers both, then covers the specs, mounting and pairing.
Shades and motors the Smoove 1 runs
Somfy lists seven application types for the Smoove 1 RTS Pure II: awnings, exterior solar screens, interior blinds, draperies, interior shades, pergolas and rolling shutters. The common thread is the radio. Any Somfy RTS motor or RTS receiver accepts it, from a battery roller shade to a 120V awning motor.
Somfy's own system overview for the switch names four RTS motors as examples:
- Somfy Roll Up 28 WireFree RTS V2 Li-ion (1241150) for small roller shades
- Somfy Cord Lift WireFree CL32 RTS (1002422) for cellular and pleated shades
- Tilt 50 WireFree Through-Shaft RTS for horizontal blinds
- Somfy Sonesse 40 RTS 409R2 120V motor (1240382) for larger interior shades on line voltage
A wired motor with no radio needs a receiver first. The Somfy Universal RTS Receiver for 110V AC motors (1810627) sits between a standard 4-wire motor and power, and the Smoove then pairs to the receiver. Zigbee motors are a different radio and will not answer an RTS switch.

Read the range figure with the room in mind. Walls, glass and metal shorten any radio path, and Somfy's instructions recommend using the switch in the same room as the shade it controls. For a shade around a corner or down a hall, the RTS receiver guide covers the options.
One channel, the my button and groups
The Smoove 1 has a single channel. That channel can still move several shades at once: pair the same channel to each motor, and one press moves the whole group. Somfy's product page says each channel controls one motorized product or a group.
The Stop button doubles as "my," Somfy's favorite-position feature. A tap while the shade is still sends it to the stored position, such as half open for afternoon glare. A tap during travel stops it.
Need separate control of two or more shades from one spot? Step up to the Somfy Smoove 4 RTS Pure II (1871381), which carries four channels in the same frame size. For a switch that gangs with Decora-style light switches, the Somfy DecoFlex 1 Channel RTS Wall Switch, White (1810897) does the same job in a rocker-style plate. Our Somfy wall controller guide compares the two families side by side.
Mounting and the frame
The Smoove mounts on the surface with the included mounting plate. Nothing goes into a wall box, and no conductor runs to the motor. That makes it a fit for rentals, finished rooms, plaster walls and spots beside an existing light switch where cutting a new box would mean patching paint.
The square switch body sits in an interchangeable frame. The Pure frame ships in the box. Somfy sells seven decorative frame colors separately, including Black (9015023) and Silver Matte (9015025), plus a Pure double frame (9015238) for setting two Smoove switches side by side. Somfy also offers custom engraving on Pure frames through its Smoove II engraving form.
Check one detail before you hand it over. Somfy's instructions note that the front panel buttons ship switched off. A long press on the On/Off button activates them, and a green LED confirms. Make that press before you pair the switch.
Pairing the Smoove 1 to an RTS shade
The Smoove pairs like any Somfy RTS transmitter, with a PROG button and a jog from the shade. Somfy's RTS Pocket Programming Guide gives the add sequence:
- On a remote that already runs the shade, select the channel for that shade.
- Press and hold PROG on that remote until the shade jogs, a brief up and down movement.
- Briefly press the PROG button on the Smoove 1.
- The shade jogs again. The Smoove now controls it.
- Test Up, Down and my from the wall before moving on.
Repeat the sequence on each shade for a group. Somfy RTS tubular motors store up to 12 transmitters, and the Smoove uses one slot per motor. To remove the switch from a motor, run the same sequence from a remote you plan to keep, then press PROG on the Smoove. Full detail, including the reset route when no working remote exists, sits in our guide to pairing and deleting Somfy RTS remotes.
Steps differ on some motor generations, especially for first-time setup and limit setting. Check the install guide for your motor in our Somfy spec sheet library before you start.
Battery care
One CR2032 coin cell powers the switch. Somfy rates it for 5 years at four commands a day. Replace it with the same type, plus side facing up, as the Smoove instructions specify.
The full Smoove range, with DecoFlex RTS, DecoFlex Zigbee and SDN keypads, sits in our Somfy wall switches and keypads collection. A good next part for a single-room job is a matching handheld, so the shade runs from the bed or sofa as well as the door.
Frequently asked questions
Does the Somfy Smoove need wiring?
No. The Smoove 1 RTS Pure II runs on one CR2032 coin cell and talks to the motor over RTS radio at 433.420 MHz. It mounts on the surface with the included plate, so no wall box, no electrician and no control cable back to the motor. Somfy rates the battery for 5 years at four commands a day.
Will a Smoove switch work with a Zigbee or wired motor?
It works with RTS motors and RTS receivers only. A Zigbee motor needs a Zigbee control such as a DecoFlex WireFree Zigbee switch. A wired 110V motor with no radio can take a Smoove once a Somfy Universal RTS Receiver (1810627) sits between the motor and power. Check the motor label before ordering any control.
Can one Smoove 1 control several shades?
Yes, as a group. Pair the switch's single channel to each motor in turn, and one press moves them together. It cannot move them separately. For independent control of up to four shades or groups from one spot, the Smoove 4 RTS Pure II (1871381) carries four channels in the same frame size.
Does the Smoove 1 include a frame?
Yes. The 1871361 ships with the Pure frame, the mounting plate, a CR2032 battery and instructions. Somfy sells seven decorative frame colors separately, including Black (9015023) and Silver Matte (9015025), and a Pure double frame (9015238) for two switches side by side. Somfy offers custom engraving on Pure frames.
