Somfy custom engraved buttons for DecoFlex, SDN and Smoove
Somfy keypads ship with blank buttons. On a specified project that leaves one detail unfinished: a wall of identical controls that only the installer can read. Our engraving service marks each button with the room, floor or scene it operates. The text is laser engraved into the cap at the Somfy factory and fitted before the switch is assembled.

Three finishes, engraved to match
The finish determines whether the keypad reads as part of the wall or as equipment fixed to it. Somfy engraves all three DecoFlex RTS finishes, and character colour is set to contrast with the cap so labels remain legible across a room.
- Pure white
- The specification default in new construction and the closest match to standard Decora plates and trim. Black characters give the highest contrast of the three.
- Ivory
- Suited to warm paint, traditional millwork and existing ivory devices, where a bright white plate would read as a later addition.
- Black
- For media rooms, dark cabinetry and contemporary interiors. White characters keep labels readable without the plate drawing attention.
Specified, not improvised
Motorised shading is often the last system a client sees and the first one they touch. An unlabelled keypad leaves that system complete but not obvious. Engraved caps close the gap: the names are already on the wall, the finish matches the rest of the electrical, and control is clear from handover onwards.
Common questions
How many characters fit on a Somfy DecoFlex button?
Nine characters including spaces on the channel buttons. The small up and down buttons take five characters if the arrow icons are replaced with words such as OPEN and CLOSE.
Can a black or ivory Somfy keypad be engraved?
Yes, across the DecoFlex RTS range, which is available in white, ivory and black. Somfy engraves SDN keypads and Smoove frames in white only.
Is the text printed on or engraved into the button?
Engraved. The character is cut into the face of the cap and filled, then fitted at the factory, so surface wear does not remove the label.
What does Somfy custom engraving cost?
$5.60 per engraved button on DecoFlex and SDN keypads, so a five button keypad is $28.00. Smoove frame engraving is a flat $35 per frame. Leaving STOP and the arrows at their factory labels costs nothing.
How long does an engraved keypad take to ship?
Engraved switches are produced to order by Somfy rather than picked from stock, so lead time is longer than a standard keypad. Contact us before specifying one against a fixed install date and we will confirm the current turnaround.
Does DecoFlex require an electrical box?
No. DecoFlex WireFree is a low-voltage device and ships with a bracket that fixes directly to drywall, though the installation still cuts an opening in the wall. Where the wall cannot be cut, the surface-mount DecoFlex fixes to the finished surface instead. Check local codes, which may still require a box.
Can a company logo be engraved on a Smoove frame?
Yes. Smoove Pure frames accept a .dxf logo file up to 1.97 in wide by 0.39 in high in place of a text line. Upload it in the builder when configuring the frame.
Can an engraved order be changed or cancelled?
No. Somfy produces engraved buttons and frames to order, so they cannot be cancelled or returned. Check spelling in the live preview before adding to cart.
Will engraved buttons work with existing Somfy motors?
Yes. Engraving changes the printed cap only. The keypad's radio, channels and programming are identical to the standard model, so it pairs with RTS or SDN motors exactly as an unengraved unit would.
Surface labels wear. Printed or applied labels degrade from first use. The same cap is pressed several times a day, and marking that sits on the surface eventually fails.
An engraved character has depth. The text is cut into the face of the cap and filled, so wear takes the surface and leaves the character intact.
Consistent across an installation. Because the caps are produced by Somfy, typeface, weight and alignment match on every keypad in the building, and the character colour matches the specified finish.
Nothing to fit on site. Engraving is completed before the switch is assembled. There is no artwork to apply, align or replace later.
Integrators and specifiers
Channel assignment is clear to whoever programmed the system and to nobody else. An engraved keypad documents itself at the wall, which is where the question is asked.
On multi-room and multi-floor work it shortens handover, reduces support calls about button assignment, and produces an installation worth photographing.
Residential clients
A blank five button keypad is operated by trial and error by anyone who was not present at handover.
Labelled controls read correctly to guests, staff and future owners on first use. On a home built to a higher standard, it is the difference between a system that is installed and one that is finished.
