Choosing a Somfy DecoFlex switch
Three DecoFlex families, three wiring stories
DecoFlex WireFree RTS runs on a coin cell and talks to the motor over 433.420 MHz radio. It sticks or screws to any surface, needs no back box, and moves later without patching drywall. DecoFlex WireFree Zigbee is the same idea on Zigbee 3.0, so the switch and the app stay in sync. DecoFlex SDN digital keypads are hardwired onto an RS485 bus and address motors individually.
Pick the family by what the motor speaks. The three look almost identical on a wall and share none of their radios.
Channels and what they address
DecoFlex comes in 1 to 8 channels. One channel drives one shade or one programmed group. On the WireFree versions each channel is a transmitter slot in the motor, and a Somfy motor holds 12 of those in total across every remote and switch pointed at it.
SDN keypads work differently: the bus carries an address, so a keypad button can call a scene rather than a single group.
Finish and mounting
Stocked in white, black and ivory, with decorator-style faceplates that gang beside standard lighting controls. Surface-mount versions sit proud on the wall. In-wall versions drop into a single-gang box. Both are offered in the WireFree range, so a retrofit can match the look of a hardwired job without the wiring.
One common ordering mistake
A wired motor with no built-in receiver will not respond to a WireFree switch, whatever the channel count. Those motors need an RTS or Zigbee receiver added inline first, or a dry-contact switch station instead. Check the motor's control row before ordering the switch.

Common questions
Does a DecoFlex switch need wiring?
The WireFree versions do not. They are battery-powered radio transmitters that mount with adhesive or screws anywhere on a flat surface, so the switch goes where it makes sense rather than where a wire runs. In-wall versions are available where a flush finish is wanted.
How many channels do I need?
One channel per shade or group you want to control separately, plus one for all-together if you want it. DecoFlex comes in 1, 2 and 5 channel versions. Five channels usually works out as four shades and an all channel.
Can the buttons be engraved?
Yes. We engrave DecoFlex buttons and frames to order with room names, zone names or icons. On a 5-channel switch this is close to essential, because unlabelled buttons leave everyone pressing them at random to find out what they do.
Is there a Zigbee DecoFlex?
Yes. DecoFlex is made in both RTS and Zigbee versions, and they are not interchangeable. Match the switch to the protocol the motors already speak, which is stated in each motor's product title.
What is the difference between DecoFlex and Smoove?
DecoFlex uses a separate frame and buttons, comes in higher channel counts and takes engraving. Smoove is a single-channel switch with a simpler touch-style face. Both are RTS transmitters that talk directly to the motor.
