Somfy Zigbee Remotes
Somfy Ysia Zigbee remotes for Zigbee 3.0 shade motors, in 1, 3 and 5-channel versions. They pair directly to motors with no hub, or join a TaHoma mesh for app and voice control.
The Ysia 5 Variation adds a scroll wheel for precise tilt control. Zigbee and RTS motors are not interchangeable — match the remote to the motor.

Choosing a Somfy Ysia Zigbee remote
Channels
Ysia remotes come in 1, 3 and 5 channels. Each channel addresses one motor or one programmed group. For a single room the 1-channel does the job; for a floor of a house the 5-channel usually maps cleanly onto rooms with one left over for an all-call.
The 5 Variation and tilt control
The Ysia 5 Variation adds a scroll wheel, which gives fine intermediate positioning rather than open, close and stop. On venetian blinds and any shade where slat angle or a precise half-height matters, that wheel is the reason to choose it.
With or without a hub
Ysia remotes pair directly to Zigbee motors with no hub at all, which covers everyday control. Scenes, schedules, app access and voice through Alexa or Google Home need a TaHoma Switch on the network. Adding the hub later does not require re-pairing the remotes.
Zigbee and RTS remotes are not interchangeable
An Ysia will not drive an RTS motor, and a Telis or Situo will not drive a Zigbee one. The handsets look similar enough that this gets ordered wrong. Check the motor's published radio frequency: 2.450 GHz means Zigbee 3.0, and 433.420 MHz means RTS.
Zigbee open-field range is 262.5 ft, shorter per hop than RTS. Mains-powered Zigbee devices repeat for their neighbors, so a house with wired Zigbee motors extends its own network. Battery motors do not repeat.

Common questions
Do Zigbee remotes need a hub?
Not for basic control. A Ysia remote pairs directly to a Zigbee motor and drives it with no hub at all. A TaHoma hub is needed for app control, schedules, scenes and voice assistants, and for the position feedback that makes a dashboard accurate.
Will a Zigbee remote control my RTS shades?
No. The protocols are different and the receiver is built into the motor. A Zigbee remote drives Zigbee motors only. If a property has both, a TaHoma Switch controls each over its own protocol from one app.
Is Somfy Zigbee compatible with other Zigbee devices?
Somfy uses Zigbee 3.0, and its motors are designed around the TaHoma ecosystem. Third-party hub support varies by hub and firmware, so treat it as something to verify for your specific setup rather than assume.
Why does Zigbee have shorter range than RTS?
Physics. Somfy publishes 262.5 ft open field for Zigbee at 2.450 GHz against 656.2 ft for RTS at 433.420 MHz, because lower frequencies pass through walls better. Zigbee makes it back with mesh: every mains-powered device relays for the others.
Does Zigbee tell me where the shade actually is?
Yes. Zigbee is two-way, so the motor reports its real position back to the hub. RTS is one-way and reports nothing, which means an RTS shade shows in an app as whatever it was last told rather than where it is.
