Short answer: The Somfy Ysia 5 Zigbee (1871154) is a five-channel handheld remote for Somfy Zigbee 3.0 motors and Zigbee Smart Plugs. Each channel runs one motor or one group, it pairs straight to the motor with no hub required, and it joins a TaHoma switch system when you want app and voice control. It will not operate RTS motors.
The radio on your motor decides this purchase
Start with the motor. The Somfy Ysia 5 Zigbee Remote (1871154) talks Zigbee 3.0 at 2.450 GHz. Somfy RTS motors listen at 433.420 MHz. The two handsets look alike on a shelf, but the radios share nothing, and an Ysia cannot pair with an RTS motor.
Check the label or the spec sheet for the frequency. A motor that lists 2.450 GHz or Zigbee 3.0 takes an Ysia. A motor that lists 433.420 MHz needs a Telis, Situo, Smoove or DecoFlex RTS control. If the label is worn, our guide to running Somfy Zigbee walks through the motor families that carry the Zigbee radio.
Rooms and shades the Ysia 5 controls
Somfy builds the Ysia 5 for interior window coverings: roller shades, blinds and draperies, plus Somfy Zigbee Smart Plugs. Five channels give you five independent addresses. Put a single shade on one channel, or program a group of shades onto it and move the whole bank with one press.
A five-channel layout fits a living room with a bay of three shades and a pair of draperies, or one floor of a house with a channel per room. The MY button stores a favorite intermediate position, which homeowners use for a glare-cutting half height. An LED on the handset confirms each command, so you know the remote sent the signal even when the shade sits in another room.
Two siblings sit beside it. The Ysia 1 (1871153) runs a single channel for one window or one group. The Somfy Ysia 5 Variation Zigbee Remote (1871281) adds a scroll wheel for fine positioning and slat tilt, which earns its price on venetian blinds and any shade where you want a precise stop.

Motors, plugs and hubs the Ysia 5 fits
Somfy's system diagram for the Ysia shows it driving Glydea ULTRA Zigbee drapery motors, Sonesse 30 WireFree Zigbee shade motors, the Zigbee Smart Plug and the TaHoma to Digital Motor Interface. Somfy's product page describes it as the handheld for Somfy-powered Zigbee window coverings and Smart Plugs.
For a battery roller shade, the Somfy Sonesse ULTRA 30 Zigbee WireFree 12V Li-ion Motor (1241752) pairs with the Ysia and needs no wiring at the window. On a drapery track, the Somfy Glydea ULTRA 50 WireFree Zigbee Drapery Motor (1246594) gives you a cordless track that the same handset runs on its own channel. A floor lamp or a plug-in motor on a Somfy Zigbee Smart Plug Adaptor (1871217) can take a channel too.
Two limits matter. In standalone mode, Somfy states the Ysia cannot pair with third-party Zigbee 3.0 equipment, so plan on Somfy motors. And only shading products from the same family or group can share a channel.
Standalone or TaHoma: two ways to run it
Standalone is the simple path. The remote pairs straight to each motor with direct links and no mesh network, and you control the shades from the handset. Somfy's Zigbee standalone guide quotes 7 m (about 23 ft) of in-room Zigbee range for that setup, so pair and use the Ysia in the same space as the motor.
Add a Somfy TaHoma Switch RTS and Zigbee Smart Hub (1871037) and the Ysia joins a connected system. The hub brings the TaHoma app, schedules, scenes and voice control through Alexa and Google Home, while the remote keeps working as the handheld in the room. Wired homes can choose the Somfy TaHoma Switch with Ethernet Adaptor (1871038) for a hard network link. Somfy lists Zigbee integration guides for Control4, Crestron, Savant, RTI, ELAN and Josh.ai among the Ysia documents.

Pairing the Ysia 5 to a Somfy Zigbee motor
Somfy's Zigbee standalone pocket guide for the Ysia remotes (1871153, 1871154 and 1871281) sets out the procedure below. Set the motor's end limits first, make sure the motor is plugged in or charged to full, and hold the Ysia within 60 cm (about 2 ft) of the motor head. Somfy notes that more than 1.5 m of distance affects pairing.
- Press and hold the motor's Program button for about 3 to 5 seconds until the motor jogs once. Its LED flashes orange.
- Select the channel you want on the Ysia 5.
- Press UP and DOWN together for under 0.5 seconds. The Ysia LED flashes orange. Allow up to 30 seconds and leave the equipment untouched.
- The Ysia LED turns solid green, and about 10 seconds later the motor jogs once.
- Press and hold UP or DOWN to check direction. If the shade runs the wrong way, press and hold MY until the motor jogs once.
- Press the Program button on the back of the Ysia for under 0.5 seconds. The motor jogs once and the LEDs on the motor and remote turn off.
Repeat on the next channel for the next motor. To start fresh, Somfy resets the Ysia by holding its back Program button for about 15 seconds until the LED cycles green and red and goes dark. Somfy warns that holding a motor's Program button longer than 20 seconds sends it into recovery mode, so release it once the motor jogs. Program button position and reset steps vary by motor, so check the install guide for your motor in our Somfy spec and install guide library.
Batteries, mounting and the next part to add
The Ysia 5 runs on two AAA (LR3) cells, and Somfy ships both in the box with a wall mount, screws and anchors. Mount it beside the door with the bracket and it reads as a wall switch you can lift off and carry.
Pick the Ysia 5 Zigbee remote when your shades already carry a Somfy Zigbee motor and you want five zones in one hand. Browse the full range of Somfy Zigbee remotes if you need one channel or a tilt wheel instead, and add the TaHoma switch when you want the app.

Ysia 5 Zigbee FAQ
Does the Ysia 5 Zigbee work with Somfy RTS motors?
No. The Ysia 5 transmits Zigbee 3.0 at 2.450 GHz, and RTS motors receive at 433.420 MHz, so the two cannot talk. Read the frequency on your motor label before you order. An RTS motor pairs with a Telis, Situo, Smoove or DecoFlex RTS control, while a Zigbee motor pairs with an Ysia or a DecoFlex Zigbee keypad.
Do I need a TaHoma switch to use the Ysia 5?
No. Somfy designs the Ysia to pair straight to Zigbee motors in standalone mode, with no hub on the network. A TaHoma switch adds the app, schedules, scenes and voice control through Alexa or Google Home. You can run the remote alone today and bring the hub in later when you want those features.
How many shades can one Ysia 5 control?
The Ysia 5 has five channels, and Somfy lets each channel run one motor or one group of motors. A group channel moves several shades together with one press. Plan channels by room or by shade type, since Somfy notes that only shades from the same family or group can share a channel.
What batteries does the Ysia 5 Zigbee use?
The Ysia 5 takes two LR3 (AAA) batteries for a 3V nominal supply, and Somfy includes both in the box. The remote carries an IP 20 rating for indoor use and runs from 32 to 118.4 F. Somfy backs the Ysia 5 with a five-year warranty, and the included wall mount lets it double as a fixed switch.
