Somfy Universal RTS Receiver for 120V Motors and Awning Sensors

Short answer: The Somfy Universal RTS Receiver (1810627) is a weatherproof 120V AC control box that adds RTS radio control to a standard wired Somfy motor. It stores up to 12 remotes or channels and up to 3 RTS sensors, so one wired awning, screen or shutter motor can answer a Telis or Situo remote plus an Eolis wind sensor or a Soliris sun and wind sensor.

The job this receiver does on a wired motor

A standard Somfy 120V motor has no radio inside. It runs on a hot lead for up, a hot lead for down, a common and a ground, and somebody has to throw a switch to move it. Somfy built the Somfy Universal RTS Receiver (1810627) to sit between line power and that motor, so the motor takes orders from RTS remotes and sensors instead of a wall toggle.

Somfy lists five applications for it: awnings, exterior solar screens, interior blinds and shades, pergolas and rolling shutters. On an awning, the receiver brings automatic wind retraction to a motor that would otherwise ride out a storm fully extended.

Somfy also names RTS motors as a fit. An RTS motor already has its own receiver, so that use case centers on adding sensor logic in one weatherproof box near the facade.

Verified specs for the 1810627

IP 66 is the number that matters for an exterior job. It lets you mount the box on the wall beside the awning instead of running control wire back indoors.

Wiring and mounting the receiver

The terminal strip carries six landing points plus a test button: MTR COM, NEUT, HOT, GROUND, UP and DOWN, with a SEQUENCE button for checking the motor. Line power lands on HOT and NEUT, with the ground wire on GROUND. The motor's common, up and down leads land on MTR COM, UP and DOWN.

Somfy prints one mounting rule in capitals: mount the control with the fittings facing downward. Water runs off the box that way and stays out of the strain reliefs.

Somfy's setup sequence, from the receiver instructions:

  1. With power off, wire the receiver to the diagram in the instructions, then turn the breakers back on. The motor should not move.
  2. Press SEQUENCE to test. Each press steps the motor through up, stop, down, stop.
  3. Hold the receiver's programming button for about 2 seconds until the LED lights. The motor jogs.
  4. Press the programming button on the Telis remote or RTS sensor. The LED blinks and the motor jogs to confirm.
  5. Run the motor DOWN from the remote.
  6. If the shade or awning travels the wrong way, turn the breakers off and swap the red and black motor wires.

Treat step 6 as mandatory on an awning. Somfy warns that a reversed awning will extend in high wind instead of retracting, which is the exact failure the receiver exists to prevent.

Pairing remotes and setting the two favorite positions

After the first remote, adding more follows the standard RTS pattern. Hold the programming button on a remote the receiver already knows for more than 2 seconds until the receiver LED blinks and the motor jogs. Then press the programming button on the new remote or sensor. A second jog confirms it. Removing a remote uses the same two presses.

A long press clears the whole memory. Hold the receiver's own programming button for more than 7 seconds, until the LED blinks and the motor jogs twice, and the receiver forgets its stored remotes and sensors.

The receiver holds two intermediate stops, one counted from the top and one from the bottom:

  • From the top: send the shade to its upper limit, press DOWN and MY together until it moves, stop where you want it, then hold MY for 2 seconds.
  • From the bottom: start at the lower limit, press UP and MY together, stop at the target and hold MY for 2 seconds.

To recall a stop, park the shade at the matching limit and press MY. To delete one, go to it and hold MY for 10 seconds. A single-channel Somfy Situo 1 RTS Pure remote (1870571) covers one receiver indoors, and the Somfy Telis 1 RTS Patio remote (1810643) suits a deck or patio. The step-by-step remote routine also lives in our guide on pairing, adding and deleting a Somfy RTS remote.

Wind and sun automation with Somfy RTS sensors

The receiver accepts up to 3 sensors, and Somfy documents two setups.

Wind only. Pair an Eolis RTS or Eolis WireFree sensor such as the Somfy Eolis 3D WireFree RTS Wind Sensor (1816081): hold the receiver's programming button until the LED blinks and the motor jogs, then press the button on the sensor. Once wind passes the threshold set on the sensor, the receiver sends UP after 2 seconds and ignores other commands while the wind stays high. Manual control returns one minute after the wind drops.

Sun and wind. Use a Soliris RTS sensor, or pair an Eolis WireFree with a Sunis sensor. The Somfy Soliris RTS Sun and Wind Sensor 24V DC Kit (9012500) handles both in one head, while the Somfy Sunis WireFree RTS Sun Sensor (9020412) adds the sun half with no wiring at all. Somfy points out that the Sunis WireFree means less cabling on the facade.

With sun above the set level and no wind, the receiver sends DOWN after a 2 minute delay. If you stored an upper intermediate position, the awning stops there instead of running to full extension. Once the sun falls below the level, the awning retracts after 15 to 30 minutes. Sun commands only run while the wind stays below its threshold. Picking the right receiver and the motor behind it

Somfy sells several RTS receivers, and voltage sorts them. The 1810627 drives a 120V AC motor. A 24V DC shade motor or an LED strip needs a different box, covered in our RTS receiver buying guide along with the pergola receiver kits.

On new awning work, a wired motor plus this receiver gives you the full Eolis and Soliris feature set from a single box at the wall. The Somfy 540R2 120V 4-Wire Motor (1049894) is one example of the standard wired Somfy motor this receiver controls. Size the motor first, then add the receiver and sensors.

The rest of the family sits in our Somfy receivers and interfaces collection, and the Universal Receiver instructions sit in the Somfy spec sheet library.

FAQ

Can the Somfy Universal RTS Receiver make a wired motor work with a remote?

Yes. Somfy designed the 1810627 to add RTS control to standard Somfy motors, including wired 120V AC motors. The motor's common, up and down leads land on the receiver's MTR COM, UP and DOWN terminals, and line power feeds HOT and NEUT. After you pair a Telis or Situo RTS remote, the wired motor answers that remote like an RTS motor.

Is there a limit on remotes and sensors for one Universal RTS Receiver?

Yes. Somfy's instructions give 12 transmitters or channels and 3 sensors per receiver. A multi-channel remote uses one slot per channel you pair. Sensors sit in their own 3 slots, so you can run an Eolis WireFree wind sensor and a Sunis WireFree sun sensor on one awning and still have all 12 remote slots free.

Can I mount the 1810627 outdoors?

Yes. Somfy rates the enclosure IP 66 and fits it with watertight strain-relief fittings, so the box can sit on the exterior wall near the awning or shutter. Somfy's one condition is orientation: mount the receiver with the fittings facing downward. Run the wiring with the power off and follow the diagram in Somfy's instructions.

Does the Universal RTS Receiver have a full memory reset?

Yes. Hold the programming button on the receiver itself for more than 7 seconds. The LED blinks and the motor jogs twice, and the receiver clears its stored remotes and sensors. Then pair your first remote again with a 2 second press on the receiver button followed by the remote's programming button, and re-add any sensors.
