Short answer: Most Somfy motor repair jobs end at the parts around the motor: a remote battery, a tripped breaker, lost limits, a worn crown and drive, a bracket or a flat battery pack. A motor that still fails after Somfy's checks goes to Somfy's five year warranty or gets replaced with a motor that matches the reference number on its label.

An awning that stops halfway out or a shade that hums without turning looks like a dead motor. Often it is something cheaper. The order below runs from free checks to the full motor swap, and the parts for each step sit in our Somfy motor accessories range.
Is the motor the part that failed?
Somfy's assistance guidance for a motor that will not run lists four checks before anyone condemns the motor. Work through them in this order:
- Look for a mechanical blockage. A jammed fabric edge, a twisted bottom bar or a frozen awning arm can stall the shade.
- Confirm the fabric or shutter curtain is still fixed to the winding tube.
- Confirm power reaches the motor: the breaker, the outlet, the transformer or the battery pack.
- Program the end limits again following the install guide for your motor.
If the fault survives all four, Somfy treats the motor as possibly faulty. Our Somfy remote not working checklist covers the radio side first, from the remote battery to channel selection and range, and adds Somfy's published reset procedures by motor family.
Two signals point to the motor itself. Somfy's Telis 1 RTS guide sends a motor that neither moves nor beeps to Somfy's assistance line, since the fault sits past anything a remote can reach. A motor you hear running while the tube stays still points to the drive, the crown or the tube connection, which brings you to the next section.
Repair parts that fix most Somfy faults
A Somfy tubular motor meets the shade through separate parts: the crown and drive inside the tube, the bracket at the head, and the control and power source outside it. Each one costs a fraction of a new motor, and each one can stall a shade on its own.
| Symptom | Likely cause | Part that fixes it |
| Remote light stays dark | Flat remote battery or failed remote | A fresh coin cell, or a Somfy Situo 1 RTS Pure II (1870571) at $77.95 |
| Motor runs, tube does not turn | Worn or loose drive, cracked crown | A matched crown and drive set for your tube, such as 9012234 at $11.50 |
| Motor head sits loose or out of line | Bent or cracked bracket | A bracket for the head type, such as 9410651 at $11.75 |
| Battery shade stops, LED blinks red 5 times | Battery near empty | A charge, or a new pack or charger |
| Motor stops after many runs in a row | Thermal protection | No part. Let the motor cool |
| Shade stops short or overruns | Lost or shifted limits | No part. Set the limits again |

Somfy awning motor repair: crown, drive and bracket

An awning motor works harder than an indoor shade motor. The folding arms push against the fabric as it rolls, and wind loads the roller from outside. The drive takes that load into the tube, so a worn drive shows up first as a motor that turns while the roller slips.
The crown and drive must match both the motor platform and the tube profile. A 70 mm octagonal roller on an LT50 motor takes the Somfy Octagonal LT50 70mm Crown and Drive Set (9012234), which fits both the Altus RTS and Sunea RTS CMO families. Round tubes and other octagonal sizes take their own sets. Measure the inside of the tube before you order.
The head end matters too. An Altus RTS motor has a star head and seats in the Somfy LT50 Star Head Motor Bracket (9410651). A Sunea RTS CMO carries Somfy's compact manual override head, which takes a hand crank and its own CMO bracket. A star bracket will not hold a CMO head. Swap a crank awning to a star head motor and the crank stops working.
Pull the motor from the roller only after you secure the fabric and support the roller. A spring-loaded arm can move when the tension comes off.
Battery motors: the pack and the charger
A WireFree shade that goes quiet is often a charge problem. On the Sonesse 28 WireFree RTS and Sonesse ULTRA 30 WireFree RTS, Somfy uses a clear signal: the red LED on the head blinks 5 times when you press a button on a paired control, and that means the battery is near empty. A red LED that blinks without stopping means thermal protection is active, and the motor runs again once it cools.
External-battery WireFree motors run from the Somfy Rechargeable Lithium-ion Battery Pack (9021217) at $72.95. A pack left flat for months can stop the motor cold, and a new pack restores the shade with no work inside the tube. Somfy lists the Somfy Lithium-ion Charger V2 Head (9025166) for that pack and for the Sonesse 28, Sonesse ULTRA 30 and Roll Up 28 WireFree RTS V2 Li-ion motors, and rates a full charge at up to 6 hours. Newer WireFree motors with a USB-C port take a different charger, so check the port on your motor first.
Warranty before repair
Check the warranty before anyone opens anything. Every genuine Somfy product we sell carries Somfy's five year warranty. Somfy's published limited warranty terms commit Somfy to repair or replace a defective product at its discretion, and they list unauthorized repair and modifications among the exclusions. A motor opened on a workbench can lose that cover.
Gather three things before you call:
- The model code and seven-digit reference number from the motor label.
- Your proof of purchase.
- The checks you already ran and what the motor did during each.
Our support line, 859-414-6872, runs 8:00 AM to 7:30 PM ET, and the team can help you match the label to a part before a warranty claim or a replacement order.
Replace the motor: match the label
A motor out of warranty that fails Somfy's checks gets replaced. The label on the motor tube near the head tells you what to order. In the model code, the first digit names the platform, 5 for LT50 and 6 for LT60, and the next digits give torque in newton meters. A 525A2 delivers 25 Nm on LT50. A 535A2 delivers 35 Nm. Our guide to the Somfy motor label walks through every field, including the 74300 code.
Order the same platform the old motor used, since the tube stays. Somfy publishes a 1.85 in minimum tube inside diameter for LT50 motors and 2.37 in for LT60. For a standard lateral arm awning with no crank, the Somfy Altus RTS 525A2 120V Motor (1043423) delivers 25 Nm at 20 rpm for $448.59. For a crank awning, the Somfy Sunea RTS CMO 535A2 120V Motor (1116321) delivers 35 Nm at 20 rpm with the CMO head for $607.11. Both run on 120V AC, 60Hz.
Our awning motor replacement guide covers the full swap, including Somfy's limit-setting sequence for the Sunea. For indoor shades, find the install guide for your part number in our Somfy spec library. An existing RTS remote pairs to the new RTS motor, so the transmitter can stay.

Some repairs belong with a pro. Somfy's dealer locator lists Somfy Expert dealers who measure, install and service motorized shades and awnings. Call one for a hardwired 120V motor that needs work at a junction box, a heavy LT60 roller, an awning mounted high on a wall, or a commercial bank of shades on a power panel. A licensed electrician should handle any change to line-voltage wiring.

Frequently asked questions
Can a Somfy motor be repaired?
Most Somfy faults trace to parts around the motor: the remote, power, limits, the crown and drive, the bracket or the battery pack, and each of those is replaceable. A motor that still fails after Somfy's four checks goes to a Somfy warranty claim within five years, or gets replaced with a motor that matches its label.
Why does my Somfy awning motor run but the awning does not move?
A motor you hear running while the roller stays still points to the drive or crown inside the tube, or to a loose tube connection. Secure the fabric, support the roller, remove the motor and inspect the drive. A matched crown and drive set, such as 9012234 for a 70 mm octagonal LT50 roller, costs $11.50.
Does opening a Somfy motor void the warranty?
Somfy's published limited warranty terms list unauthorized repair and modifications among the exclusions, so opening the motor can end the cover. Every genuine Somfy product we sell carries Somfy's five year warranty. Call 859-414-6872 with the label details and your proof of purchase before you take the motor apart.
How much does it cost to replace a Somfy awning motor?
At our October 2026 prices, the Altus RTS 525A2 (1043423) costs $448.59 and the Sunea RTS CMO 535A2 (1116321) costs $607.11. A crown and drive set and a bracket add about $23. An existing RTS remote pairs to the new motor, so a new remote is optional.
