Somfy Orea 550R2 RTS Motor -- wireless cassette awning motor

The Somfy Orea 550R2 RTS is a wireless, radio-controlled motor built for Orea cassette-integrated awning and shading systems, delivering 50Nm (442" lb) at 14 rpm. Orea integrates the motor into a cassette awning housing -- crown/drive and bracket hardware is cassette-specific and not part of ShadeMotorsDirect's standard LT50 accessory set, so none is listed here; confirm cassette hardware compatibility directly with the cassette system being installed.

Common questions

What is the Orea RTS 550R2 motor used for?

Somfy part 1038174 is a 120V motor with a built-in RTS radio receiver, rated at 50 Nm of torque and 14 rpm. Somfy lists it for awnings and exterior solar screens, on new construction or retrofit projects.

What tube size and head type does it need?

Somfy lists a star head and a minimum tube inside diameter of 1.85 in. The motor uses electronic limits with a capacity of 250 turns, and Somfy lists a weight of 5.6 lb unwrapped.

What power and wiring does it need?

It runs on 120V AC, with Somfy listing 108 V to 132 V, 1.1 A and 240 W while running. It ships with a 9.84 ft 3-conductor SJTW cable. The RTS radio replaces control wiring, so the power feed is the one cable to run.

Which remotes and switches work with it?

Any Somfy RTS transmitter, including the Situo 1 Channel RTS Pure Remote (1870571), the Telis 16 Channel RTS Pure Remote (1811081) and the DecoFlex 5 Channel RTS Wall Switch (1810813). The motor stores 12 channels, and Somfy rates RTS range at 656.2 ft in open field.

Can I control it from my phone or a voice assistant?

Yes, through the Somfy TaHoma Switch (1871037). RTS is one-way radio, so the app sends commands to the motor but cannot report the awning's position back.

Is it rated for outdoor use?

Somfy rates the Orea RTS 550R2 at IP 44 with Class I insulation and an operating range of -4 °F to 158 °F. It runs at 55 dB, has a thermal time of 4 min, carries a UR approval and a 5-year Somfy warranty.
