What is the Altus RTS 550R2 used for?
Part 1038170 is a heavy-duty LT50 motor for large rolling shutters, retractable awnings and exterior solar screens. Its RTS radio receiver is built in, so there is no separate receiver to install.
What torque and speed does it deliver?
Somfy rates the 1038170 at 50 Nm and 14 rpm, with a star head and electronic limits that cover up to 250 turns. It needs a tube with an inside diameter of at least 1.85 in and runs at 55 dB.
How is it powered and wired?
It runs on 120V/60Hz, draws 2.1 A and uses 250 W in operation. The motor comes with a removable 9.84 ft SJTW 3-wire cable. Somfy rates it IP 44 for exterior use.
Which remotes work with it?
Any Somfy RTS transmitter works, including the Telis 1 and Telis 4 RTS Patio remotes (1810643, 1810645), the Situo 5 Soliris RTS Pure II (1870579) and DecoFlex RTS wall switches. The motor stores 12 channels, with an open-field range of 656.2 ft.
Can it run on a schedule or from an app?
Yes. The Telis 1 Chronis RTS timer (1805237) runs it at set times, and a Somfy TaHoma Switch (1871037) adds app and voice control. RTS is one-way radio, so the app sends commands without reporting position.
Is there a lighter-duty Altus RTS?
Yes. The Altus RTS 525A2 (1043423) delivers 25 Nm at 20 rpm for smaller shutters, awnings and screens. Choose the 550R2 when the load calls for 50 Nm. Both use LT50 star-head crowns, drives and brackets.

Cut power, take it down
Turn off the circuit, then lift the roller out of its brackets.

Slide it out of the tube and take off its crown and drive.
